U18 U15 Girls Hockey

May. 09, 2020

Dear Parents and female hockey players,

My name is Damon Jeffs. I coach the Peewee AA hockey team in Peace River and am a Skills Facilitator for Hockey Alberta. This season I would like to start a female U-18 and U-15 combined hockey team in Peace River.  There's a need to teach females how to play a skilled, fast hockey game in an environment they can thrive in. Games, practices and off-ice training sessions designed for males, are not set up to maximize female athletic potential.  One of the concerns is that playing games in an all female league would be less than competitive and the girls will not be challenged. In my opinion, the games in a league have very little bearing on how these girls develop into young adults and hockey players. Using well organized practices, dry land sessions and a seasonal development plan, the girls will be given the tools to succeed. Each team in the female league has strong players and weak players, as would ours. As a coach, one of our jobs is to make sure the girls are prepared for the next season, wherever they will play.

We will have a mix of girls, some that aspire to play at a college or university level and some that are playing because they have found a sport they love and the right teammates to go with it. It is my intention to create a program that challenges and excites these young female hockey players to come to the rink.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me.
